Robert Woods, 63, is charged with murder in connection with the death, Springfield police said.
Police responded to Woods' apartment on Euclid Avenue just before 5 a.m. to calls of a medical emergency. Officers found a man who also lived there lying in a pool of blood on the apartment floor with a stab wound, authorities said.
He was dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the man's name.
Police also did not release a potential motive for the attack.
Springfield police are investigating the killing.
